To become a medical cannabis patient in Maryland, follow these steps:
1. Register with the MMCCGo to the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC) website. Create an account and submit an application.
Provide:
-A valid Maryland ID or proof of residency (out-of-state residents can qualify under specific conditions).
-A passport-style photo.
-The last four digits of your SSN.
2. Get a Written Certification Schedule an appointment with a registered medical cannabis provider (doctor, nurse practitioner, etc.).The provider must confirm you have a qualifying medical condition (e.g., chronic pain, PTSD, severe nausea, etc.). Once approved, the provider will issue an MMCC certification to your account.
3. Purchase from a Licensed Dispensary Once certified, you will receive a Patient ID Number and can purchase medical cannabis from any licensed Maryland dispensary. Medical patients can buy up to a 30-day supply, which is more than the recreational limit.
4. (Optional) Get a Medical Cannabis CardA physical card is optional but can be ordered for $50 through MMCC.
Yes, in Maryland, you can buy recreational cannabis with an out-of-state license as long as you are 21 or older and have a valid government-issued ID (such as a driver's license or passport). There is no residency requirement for purchasing recreational cannabis.
In Maryland, adults 21 and over can purchase up to 1.5 ounces of cannabis flower, 12 grams of concentrated cannabis, or a total amount of cannabis products not exceeding 750 mg of THC in a single transaction.
